seed

Peter Dailey and Beverley Iles
Old Customs House, 8 Phillimore St, Fremantle; 11 am to 5 pm, 9th to 20th April 2025.

Peter Dailey and I will be exhibiting “Seed”, a body of work at Old Customs House during the Sculpture at Bathers 2025 exhibition. We were awarded a scholarship, generously donated by Kerry Harmanis, as part of the Sculpture at Bathers (S@B) exhibition in 2020. In 2023, we undertook a residency to Atelier Mondial in Basel, Switzerland, and attended a workshop in Cedeira, Portugal.
Seed is an exhibition of work developed during this residency and expanded upon in our home studio during 2023 to 2025. The synopsis of the exhibition revolves around artistic and conceptual interests we explored whilst undertaking the residency in Basel. The natural science institutions, pharmaceutical museum and industry, the oldest herbarium in Europe, rare plant seed banks, and botanical and community gardens in the Basel region, allows this exhibition to work with ideas of botanical collections, economic botany, biosecurity and botanical colonialism; as well as concepts more generally of emptiness, fertility, extinction, regeneration and resilience.
Seed consists of large installations and sculptural works, paintings, smaller sculptures and drawings. Some of the works are collaborations and others are individual. The exhibition includes work completed in Basel and transported back to Perth.
