Nesting Box for the Spotted Pardalote; 2020; Pickle District, Old Aberdeen St, West Perth.
Sculpture by the Freeway was an initiative by VoxLab artists Jon Denaro and Bec Juniper, and supported by the City of Vincent, to bring some large scale, installations to the Pickle Precinct in West Perth. Pardolotes are tiny, brightly coloured birds that nest in long tunnels they dig in sand banks. Nesting Box for the Spotted Pardalote, painted in camouflage colours, and high in the tree canopy, is a tongue in cheek view of how humans and the natural world coexist.
