34th Annual Sculpture Survey, Gombok Gallery
I was invited into the 34th Annual Sculpture Survey at Gombok Gallery by artist and friend Denise Pepper, along with Harrison See. To see Denise’s spectacular work, you can visit https://www.facebook.com/DenisePepperArt/.
The work document a site, indicated by the latitude and longitude coordinates in the title, which is close to the Midland Railway Workshops. The materials directly connect with the site and examines ideas around fragility, heavy metal contamination and material and industrial failures. The discarded bottles as moulds reference both old glass bottles dug up at the site and the still life works of the painter Giorgio Morandi.
Natura Morta: -31.895612, 115.994345 (2017); Concrete with site specific soil, copper, lead, iron.
